National Shakespeare Festival Article
It has been a busy year for our Tauranga Girls’ College Shakespeare enthusiasts!
Two of our artsy ākonga spent King's Birthday in Wellington celebrating the National University of Otago Sheila Winn Shakespeare Festival. Ansh Dhot and Rizzy Saludez, student directors, performed a five-minute scene from Shakespeare’s comedy ‘Taming of the Shrew’ in the beautiful St. James Theatre after placing first in the regional competition.
“It was a hugely educational experience, learning about different types of stage combat and monologue delivery from some of the best experts in Aotearoa!” Comments Ansh.
“I loved meeting fellow thespians and creating new friendships from other schools… Being able to perform in the stunning St. James Theatre was a highlight too.” Says Rizzy.
In September, our Deputy Head Prefect of Arts, Sarah Smith, will spend time in an immersive Shakespearean experience where she will be participating in the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand’s (SGCNZ) National Shakespeare Schools Production after being awarded a Direct Entry position at the regional Sheila Winn Festival. We wish her all the best for this exciting opportunity!
