Jahnay Shines :

Jahnay LeLievre Houkamau is a Year 12 student who has just completed the Level 2 Agricultural Futures Academy course in conjunction with Toi Ohomai in 2022.  Jahnay was named most improved student across the course which takes in students from the wider BOP area. She gained a merit achievement as well as being awarded the Prime Minister's Vocational Excellence award for 2022. This award is given to a student who is enrolled in vocational education and training who has displayed excellent commitment to their studies and has the skills and capabilities needed to thrive in higher vocational education, training and employment. This award comes with a $2000 cash scholarship.

Jahnay was also selected by her Toi Ohomai tutor to join the Level 3 class to spend a week down in Motu on a working farm docking lambs. The group docked 2700 lambs with Jahnay putting the final lamb in the shute. Rachel the group's tutor said she was “an absolute gem, she worked so hard, provided us with so many laughs and has such a great attitude. I’d love another 10 Jahnay's next year.”

Jahnay is continuing her studies in Primary Industries next year by taking the Level 3, two day a week Futures Academy Agricultural course in 2023.

Fulton Hogan Cadetships 2023:

This year two of our amazing wahine toa have been successful in gaining full time Cadetships with Fulton Hogan in 2023.

Both Kay and Rangiatea attended the recent Building Tauranga from the Ground Up event hosted by Takitimu Northern Link in conjunction with Fulton Hogan and HEB Construction. They have taken up the opportunity to try all the different roles within the construction industry such as traffic management, infrastructure, water reticulation, roading, civil engineering and environmental management. Kay is looking to further her education in the Environmental area and Rangiatea is going to use this opportunity to explore all of the areas identified.

Fulton Hogan were very impressed with these two rangatahi who displayed maturity beyond their years, a great attitude and were thrilled to bring them into their team.

Gateway First in Class:

Tamara Walters was recently awarded Top student in the Gateway class. Tamara has had a full on year accepting many opportunities that came her way. She completed two 10 week taster courses in Engineering and Automotive at Toi Ohomai. She enrolled with BCITO and completed her Level 2 Introduction to Construction units as well as spending time building out onsite with a local builder. She has gained her drivers license as well attending a number of open days and field trips around vocational pathways. To finish her year she took part in a two day workshop learning job interview skills, communication, feedback and sleep management also gaining 11 Level 3 credits. Tamara has displayed all the skills and attributes that employers are crying out for, most of all a fantastic work ethic and positive attitude. Next year she is enrolled in the Level 3 NZ Certificate in Automotive Engineering with Toi Ohomai which she will attend two days a week while here at school.
