This artboard has been invited to be a part of the NZQA Top Art Exhibition, where around 60 folio boards from the five different fields (Painting, Design, Printmaking, Sculpture and Photography) of the Arts have been invited to participate in a six-month-long exhibition touring the whole country. My Painting theme was a year-long process where I generated, developed and regenerated ideas. I made decisions throughout the process to include, change or discard different artwork depending on how my artwork was progressing. It was an ongoing systematic process that taught me a great deal.

"My folio board displays a series of self-portraits moving from the indoors to the outdoors full of mountains and clouds. They depict a personal journey where the subject matter is inspired by Classical Art. Oil Painting was my favourite medium to use, despite the long drying process. Oil paints have the ability to blend more smoothly than acrylics, creating an effective gradient. Later on, I began to incorporate mixed media, including paper cutting, layering, and experimenting with see-through plastic sheets." Nichola Li
