Pride Week at TGC

Dana Stamenkovic —

With June coming to a close, Tauranga Girls’ College paid tribute to Pride month.

Tuesday 28 June marked the first meeting of Āniwaniwa (rainbow in Te Reo Māori), TGC’s pride support group.

The first meeting had a fantastic turnout. Along with some kai, the group got together and discussed goals for the future.

At lunchtime on 29 June was TGC’s annual Pride march. Despite the pouring rain, the march was met with overwhelming support, with over 100 students and their umbrellas marching the planned route in the rain.

Afterwards, there was an opportunity to donate a gold coin for rainbow ribbons. Over $100 was raised with all profits going towards helping rebuild the Rainbow Youth drop-in centre at the Historic Village.
