TGC Service Day 2021 - Tuesday 8 June
At Tauranga Girls’ College we promote and value the concept of service and contributing to the local community. In other words being a part of something bigger than yourself.
On Tuesday 8 June Tauranga Girls’ College will be holding a Service Day which is an opportunity for students to contribute to the kura (school) and the wider community. Students will be expected to contribute to the Service Day in the following ways.
Year 9 students are expected to:
Volunteer a minimum of three hours of their time to community service.
Year 10 to Year 13 students are expected to:
Work a minimum of five hours in the community to raise funds to contribute towards a project chosen by the students to provide enhanced facilities for teaching and learning as well as support for the community.
Students are encouraged to find their own service or jobs in the community or to inform the school if they require assistance to find meaningful work for the day. In the past funds raised through work day have contributed towards the following projects:
Shade structures around the school campus
Heating in the swimming pool
The eftpos facility in the canteen
Drinking fountains with filtered cold water
New computer screens
If you belong to an organisation or business that could provide students with service (Year 9) or work (Year 10 to Year 13) opportunities please contact the kura at office@tgc.school.nz.
