Building Tauranga from the Ground Up
On Friday, 16 June, we took a group of Year 11-13 students to the CONNEXIS Girls in High Vis careers day. This was in partnership with Takitimu Northern Link Construction and Fulton Hogan.
It was an opportunity for the students to see the vast array of career pathways within the infrastructure/construction industry. We spent time with local kaitiaki, civil engineers, wastewater engineers, roading crews, environmental engineers, health and safety managers, communications team and heavy moxy truck drivers. There was an opportunity for students to learn about their paid cadetships and Earn While They Learn diplomas and degree options.
A highlight was being taken around by ex-student Kay Flexman, who attended this day last year and is now one of only five cadets taken on by Fulton Hogan this year as she works towards an environmental engineer role in the company further down the track.
