In the Library

TGC —

The library is beyond excited to welcome all the new Student Librarians into the library this year. We have begun training, showing them the workings of a library. How to issue, return, and where the books go in the different sections of the library. We cannot wait to see the wonderful creations they will make throughout the year.

This year we have begun Blind Dates with a Book, which is proving rather popular. We consistently have to refresh the shelf as they leave so quickly! A Blind Date is a book that is wrapped up, covering the cover and synopsis. A few key points are written on the wrapping to give an idea about the story itself. The idea is to allow readers to try something they wouldn’t usually pick up because of what the book looks like.

We have also started a year-long Reading Challenge, with 45 people (staff and students) signing up to participate. Each month there are two or three themes which readers can choose from. And throughout the year, there will be prizes for those who have completed the different challenges. Drew Kenny and Mrs Rowe have submitted reviews for books they read in February.

Lastly, in collaboration with the International department, we are running an Asian Culture Craft Club on a Friday lunchtime for March. The students are allowed to create different crafts from around Asia. So far, they have done some origami and rabbits - to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the year of the rabbit. We cannot wait to see what other things are made for the rest of the month!
