Bay of Plenty Model United Nations

TGC —

Over the last weekend of the holidays, Bay of Plenty Model United Nations took place, where students took roles of being global delegates for diverse countries and tackled pressing global issues, enhancing their public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.

Layla Hoskin (Year 13) took on the tough role of being a coordinator and led a committee of passionate students, including Kiarni Sperling (Year 13), Jin Lee (Year 13), Aiza Mustasam (Year 11) and Brooke Barnett (Year 11) to make this event possible. Their hard work and collaboration created an environment where participants engaged in lively debates and negotiated resolutions on critical topics.

“It was such a privilege to coordinate BOPMUN this year and to spend the last three months crafting an event I am truly proud of. BOPMUN was about empowering students to develop their public speaking and negotiation skills and self-confidence, and this was 100% accomplished.” - Layla Hoskin, Year 13

“Seeing so many students across the Bay interact with civic education and engage in meaningful conversations about global issues was incredibly rewarding. It’s inspiring to witness the passion and dedication of our youth, and I’m confident that the conference delegates all have bright futures ahead of them.” - Kiarni Sperling, Year 13

The Bay of Plenty Model United Nations was a valuable experience for all involved, showcasing the hard work of the organising committee and the enthusiasm of the participants. This event not only helped students develop important skills but also deepened their understanding of global issues and diplomacy.
