Te Pou, Acrylic on plywood H205mm, W595mm, D17mm
This Pou represents the pūrākau from my tribal area of Rotorua, Hinemoa and Tūtānekai.
I incorporated huia feathers, Mokoia Island, the moon and patterns that represent and symbolise this pūrākau. I painted the poutama pattern blue to represent Lake Rotorua, the water Hinemoa swam across to get to Tūtānekai. The turapa pattern fading in from the sides represents turapa panels that are placed on either side of a Pou in a wharenui.
