Fabulous Creations in Materials Technology - Product Design & Construction
The technology students have been kept busy in 2021, here are a few highlights.
Gabe Adams has taken out the prestigious Technology Award this year. Gabe’s dedication and commitment to creating some novel, sustainable products really paid off. Gabe created a coffee table majoring in recycled rimu and other wood obtained from locally milled native trees. Earlier in the year Gabe created a bedside table with drawer from recycled rimu. With these projects Gabe was able to gain 20 Level 3 Achievement Standard credits which count toward her University Entrance qualifications.
Other successful projects include Layla McIntosh’s Art box at Level 2 - made from sustainable local Japanese cedar and featuring dovetail jointed edges and anime themed laser printed artwork. At Level 1, Alexa Rongo’s bespoke shelf design was outstanding.
Some highlights in the junior programme include the Year 10 Cafe Project team work on upcycling our old workshop benches into stylish cafe tables. The team found a time capsule (school magazine) left in the enclosed tool bay of one of the benches by students from 2005! The team led by Peyton Kent, Emma Delo and Anahera Hika had nearly two tables completed by the year end. The table centres are to be themed with resined coffee beans and will depict art from local history and culture some of which is being developed by Cherish Van Den Anker and Eden Tapsell
