In the library
Here we are at the end of Term 3! Is it just us, or has 2023 been moving rather quickly?
We have ended the term with several celebrations.
Tongan Language Week was the 4-8 September. Several students created a lovely display, bringing in things from home to display. It was rather beautiful, and gained many compliments throughout the week.
On the 8 September, it was International Literacy Day. With the help of the Student Librarians, we created a display to inform. It included a list of some of Tauranga Girls’ College’s staff and student's favourite books. As well as some information about Literacy itself, like: Andorra is top in the world for its Literacy rate, the percentage of the literacy rate globally for all males is 90% while for females it’s 82.7%.
11-15 September was Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. Again, we had some lovely displays which showed the wonderful books in our library that celebrate and teach Te Reo Māori and those which have been translated into or are in Te Reo Māori.
This last week, we joined the school in celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week. The display has information about things one can do to help their mental health and a kindness board where students and staff could add notes of kindness. An example of the displayed activities that help with Mental well-being is: Reading - Reading can help keep you calm and mindful. It also lets you take your mind far away from everyday life and problems. It helps you to sleep.
We have also celebrated our wonderful Student Librarians with an ‘end of year’ shared lunch To say thank you for all the help, support and laughter they provide us throughout the year. And while there is still one term to go, many student librarians will be heading off on study leave and to their end-of-year exams.
The end of Term 3 also means the end of Blind Dates with a Book for 2023. We hope everyone who has taken part has enjoyed the mystery books they have read.
As always, the latest reviews are below. We also welcome any book reviews from Staff and students. You can find previous ones on our homepage.
As term four is the term for exams, we want to remind everyone that there are study guides for all of Tauranga Girls’ College’s subjects. Those which can be issued will be able to go out for a week to ensure that everyone who wishes to use them has the chance to. However, we have some reference ones that must stay in the library. Head to our homepage to see which ones we have.
We are on a mission to have all overdues returned to the library. Term four is the time in which we do our stocktaking. If you have received an email, a notice or a letter (or all three) about a book, take the time over the holidays to look for it and return it when you return in term four. If you have lost it, it is damaged, or you have any questions, please contact Ms Middleton (rmiddleton@tgc.school.nz). We just want all the books back.
Speaking of books coming back. This, the last week of term three, was the last week for seniors (Years 11, 12 and 13) to issue books and all books MUST be returned by 27 October. Juniors (years 9 and 10) have until 27 October, and all books MUST be returned by 17 November. These dates are crucial for our stocktaking.
There will be a summer reading club for all those returning to Tauranga Girls’ College in 2024, but there will be more information on that in Term 4. (We have some exciting plans, so keep your eyes peeled!)
Have a fantastic holiday, and we will see everyone for the final term of the year!
