TGC —

This piece is inspired by the idea of freedom and escaping, which I’ve shown through a storybook with birds and vines coming out of its pages.

I drew inspiration from Blaine Fontana’s mixed-media techniques, and pattern work inspired by Angie Dennis and Vanessa Edwards' use of single-color silhouettes. Penny Howard’s influence is in the filled-in silhouettes I’ve used.

The birds represent the feeling of wanting to break free, while the vines show the journey of growth that takes place. The book is meant to symbolize the power of stories and imagination to help us transcend our limits.

For me, this artwork captures the feeling of wanting more, whether that’s in life, emotions, or ideas. The birds flying away show that moment when we decide to let go and embrace freedom, while the vines remind us that change takes time. I wanted to express how stories can both set us free and keep us connected to what really matters.

This painting pushed me to try new techniques and not be afraid to be bold. It was fun learning to push outside of my comfort zone and explore unique styles. It was tough at times to look past the little mistakes, only you see and focus on the bigger picture.
