‘Girls Night Out’ by Layla Hoskin and Ella Dunseath

TGC —

For their Level 2 Business Studies project, Layla Hoskin and Ella Dunseath founded ‘Girls Night Out’, a movie night company designed to create a safe night out for teenage girls in the Tauranga area. They teamed up with The Village Cinema at The Historic Village, a non-profit community cinema, to organise two events in April and June. To fulfil the achievement standard's community focus requirements, the girls donated 100% of their profits to the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation. They chose this charity because it aligns with their values and the mission of their business, and they were passionate about supporting it.

Going into hosting their first event, they did not expect to be anywhere near as successful as they were. Throughout both events, Ella and Layla raised $342, with plans to sell their leftover stock at Market Day for additional profit, bringing their total to upwards of $400 to give to their chosen charity. Despite this record profit, the girls decided to stick by their initial pledge and donate their entire profit to the Mental Health Foundation.
