Attendance

TGC —

Why attendance matters

Being at school every day matters. The more knowledge ākonga get at school, the more choices they will have when they leave.

There are four attendance categories:- which describes your young person

  • Regular attendance: students with over 90% attendance, missing fewer than five days of school in a standard ten-week term

  • Irregular absence: students with more than 80% and up to 90% attendance

  • Moderate absence: students with more than 70% and up to 80% attendance

  • Chronic absence: students with 70% attendance or less

If your young person cannot attend, please inform the school via email at absences@tgc.school.nz or phone (07 5788114). Regular attendance strengthens learning.

  • If absence is for a period longer than five days, there should be a medical certificate

  • If absence is due to overseas travel, it will be coded G, which will appear as unjustified

  • Learners with more than five days of unexplained absence will be contacted by the school for an explanation or invited for a whānau meeting if attendance becomes a concern.

Also, for Health & Safety reasons, students are not permitted to leave the school grounds during the day unless they are Year 13 students. There is a school canteen, or Students should be encouraged to be prepared with refreshments for the day, whether purchased or made with ingredients from the home pantry.
