Sleep

Teenagers are one of the most sleep-deprived segments of the population. Sleep is vital to a child’s well-being. A good night’s sleep helps young people function well and feel more settled and positive. It also allows them to moderate their behaviour and responses to situations. This is as well as being ready for school.

Sleep also strengthens the immune system and supports our young people’s overall development and ability to function properly daily. Teenagers can be distracted by digital devices, including TV, the internet, texting friends, and social media. These all have a negative impact on sleep.

Trying to catch up on sleep is not the answer and can lead to severe sleep deprivation. Recent studies have found that teenagers miss out on vital REM sleep, which is essential for memory and learning.
