In the last week of the 2023 school year, the Tauranga Girls’ College 1st X1 cricket team flew to Lincoln, Christchurch, for the 2023 Gillette Venus Cup Nationals.

The venue was the outstanding New Zealand Cricket High-Performance Centre, where teams could play on some of the premier wickets in NZ with top national umpires and scorers.

The top team from each Major Association, from all over New Zealand, were represented. Teams represented Auckland, Northern Districts, Central Districts, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago. Tauranga Girls’ College represented the Northern Districts Region.

There was some excellent cricket over the four days, with our Tauranga Girls’ College players stepping up to this higher level. A good win against Christchurch Girls’ and a close loss against Takapuna Grammar meant the team came fourth in New Zealand. Notable performances to make the Tournament honours board were - Elle Archer 4/19 off 4 overs and Amelia Harvey 73* not out.
