Kia ora TGC whānau, parents and caregivers

Te Ara Ako (learning conversations)
Thank you to our parents who attended our Te Ara Ako day last Wednesday. We were impressed with the number who were able to set aside 15 minutes to talk with whānau teachers and with those who we communicated with in other ways when attending wasn't possible. We genuinely value the partnerships with you as families wanting as we do, the best for your daughter.

Road Safety
A number of our senior girls drive to school and will be fully aware of the limited parking spaces around the school. Parking is not permitted on the school site as we are short of staff car parking, including our part time staff who often struggle to get to their class on time due to students parking in teacher car parks. With Cameron Road being so busy, we remind all of our students to take particular care when driving, crossing the road or when being driven to school by a parent. There have been a number of close calls lately and such risks are simply not worth it.

Helping our community
Recently TGC donated computers to the Turning Point Trust, a community group supporting mental health and addiction. We know that assisting this trust helps those in need. As a community school, we believe in giving back to our community.

Leadership roles for 2022
Attendance, engagement and participation along with community service is key to winning a role as a prefect, Deputy Head Girl or Head Girl at TGC. We expect you to have given back 40 hours of community service in 2021, participated in all of our house events like swimming sports, athletics and waiata competitions (these are all school days), attended over 85% of your time and of course done your best in the classroom and with your learning. We believe in empowering women but in order to do that, we expect students to use their initiative and model being involved in all that the school has to offer.

Easter is in sight
The Christian holiday and festival of Easter is soon upon us. Whilst I acknowledge not all of our readers are Christian, the time away from work also assists with hauora and wellbeing for many of our parents, teachers and students. It has been a busy start to the school year so this is a reminder to be kind, to take care and for our school staff and students to enjoy the additional holiday on Tuesday that all schools are awarded after Easter Monday.

Summer Tournament
We wish all of our students, coaches, managers and parents supporting the summer tournament the best of luck this week. 2021 marks one of the biggest summer tournament participants in recent years.
