TGC Students Selected for Global Development Tour!
Layla Hoskin and Ansh Dhot have both been accepted into the selective UN Youth Global Development Tour 2025! The annual Tour takes 20 of the brightest high school students from across New Zealand to the cities at the forefront of sustainable development.
This highly selective experience will take them to New York, Boston, London, Brussels, and Paris to experience the world through the lens of the United Nations’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). Throughout the tour, they will visit several of the UN’s agencies including the UNHQ, NZ Permanent Mission, UN Women, UNDP, UN Global Impact, and UNESCO, as well as other organisations on the cutting edge of sustainable development.
This experience marks the perfect transition from High School to University for me, laying the groundwork for my future career goals in the world of diplomacy. The Global Development Tour will allow me to gain invaluable practical insight into sustainable development, knowledge which I can bring back to my community in Aotearoa to make tangible local change with a global outlook. It represents a culmination of my commitment to my studies, community involvement, and passion for civics while acting as the beginning of my journey as a global citizen. I have previously engaged with UN Youth as a High School Ambassador which developed my skills and made me a better person, and the GDT will expand on this to an unprecedented level.”
-Layla Hoskin
“If history has shown anything, it’s that we are part of an ongoing societal progress. This is an understanding which aligns perfectly with not only the GDT’s purpose but with my own academic passions and commitment to bettering my communities. The Global Development tour is a life-changing opportunity for me to take a step towards such progress on both an educational and personal level.”
-Ansh Dhot
They are both incredibly grateful and excited for this opportunity, but they need some help to cover a collective $24,000 in delegate fees. You can help get these trailblazers on their way by contributing to their Givealittle here: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/help-layla-and-ansh-shine-on-the-global-stage
Layla and Ansh will also be running a photo booth fundraiser during Leaver’s Week, so keep an eye out on the school's social media for more details.
