Year 10 Drama Visit to Tauriko Primary School
On the last Thursday of Term Three, some of Mrs Vercoe’s Year 10 Drama students chose to perform their devised plays at Tauriko Primary School.
‘After studying the features of Children's Theatre, we needed to put what we had learnt to the test. Could we engage, entertain and hold the interest of the little children with our plays?’ The answer was a profound YES!
New entrance students, Year 1 & 2s, were wowed with puppets, chase scenes, flying broomsticks and more. They loved the moments with audience involvement, yelling out helpful things like, ‘She’s behind you!’, singing the gingerbread theme song with gusto, and one little Spiderman even got to jump up and scare away a dragon!
Our Year 10 students performed with energy and skill. They brought each story to life using suspenseful narration, exaggerated facial expressions, slapstick comedy, and song. There were several classics on display, and the children loved every last one: ‘Room On A Broom’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, ‘A Bad Case of [Spots]’, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, ’Hansel and Gretel’, ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and ‘The Day The Crayons Quit’.
Some highlights from the kids: ‘I loved when her [the witch’s] hat blew off - it was funny!’,
“I loved the bit where Goldilocks screamed at the bears, and they screamed, too! And they all ran around!’
‘The crayons had a really good message - you must be kind.’
Once again, a huge congratulations to all who performed. What a wonderful day, and we look forward to seeing you all-star in the Year 10 Production later this term!
