Senior Volleyball Report - Bay Championships 2025

TGC —

Recently, the TGC Senior A, B, and C Volleyball teams battled it out at the Bay of Plenty Volleyball Championships. Over three weekends, 34 teams from across the region competed at Mercury Arena in a demanding six-day tournament.

The Senior C team, comprised entirely of Year 11 players, showed remarkable growth in both skill and game strategy. They experienced a mix of wins and losses, gaining valuable experience and ultimately finishing 23rd.

The Senior B team steadily improved throughout the competition. Despite facing tough opponents early on, they achieved an impressive 10th place finish. The TGC Volleyball Programme extends its gratitude to coach Paris, whose positive influence, expertise, and patience were invaluable. Though she has departed for Police College, her impact will be missed. The team now looks forward to competing in Division 3 at the NZSS Volleyball Championships in Palmerston North next week.

The Senior A team began the Bay Championships with a dominant performance, entering the final weekend as the top seed. However, a series of unfortunate injuries presented a significant challenge. Despite the tireless efforts of Coach Treena and the team, they narrowly lost their quarter-final in a thrilling five-set match. They ultimately secured 5th place. Co-captain Nevada expressed confidence ahead of the NZSS Volleyball Championships (Top 32 draw), stating, “We have prepared well, injuries are healing, and we're confident we will perform at our best when it matters most at nationals. Huge thanks to everyone who came out and supported all of our teams at the Bays!"
