J Block is on the move

TGC —

Our ten temporary classrooms and ablution block are very close to completion to allow the first groups of students to occupy them. The computer classroom is the first class to relocate with the remainder being scheduled for three weeks time. Not only do the classrooms come fully carpeted, double glazed, acoustically paneled, equipped with air conditioning, white boards and projectors, they also have purpose built access via ramps, covered decks and concrete paths. These spaces are clearly equipped to support ongoing learning and teaching and will eventually be removed at the completion of the refurbishment. (photo)

An exciting part of the process has been the relocating of the Envirohub to its new central location in the school. Situated next to two beautiful puriri trees, with a deck to be built under the trees and around the rocks, it will be more visible to all our students. Like a number of spaces in the school it will need to double as a teaching space during the J Block build, but will always be available to our enviro students outside of class times. (photo)

Once J Block is fully decanted the first stage of the project known as the ‘soft strip’, will start and is planned for 22 June. Remediation work will commence on the 18 August. The design process is going through its final stages with detailed design completion due on 15 July. We are very excited that this work is much more than just earthquake strengthening and weather tightness. Once the design is final we will be able to share detailed designs with our school community. Whilst we acknowledge the disruption to move out of J Block, we also know that what we will have at the end of this project will be well worth it. Watch this space!
