NZSS Squash Nationals 2023

TGC - Sport —

55 teams, 44 schools, 300 players, 4-6 August, Auckland.

Tauranga Girls’ College was one of those teams. Seeded fifth overall, we headed to the North Shore Squash Club, intending to gain one of those ever-elusive medals.

The first round went well with a great win against Hillcrest High School, four games to one. This placed our team in Pool A, a tough pool with last year's winner Otumoetai College.

Onto round two, a crucial and pivotal match against Otumoetai College was not to be, losing three games to two, albeit the team came close, winning 129 points to Otumoetai College’s 139 points.

In round three, we won against Havelock North four games to one.

In round four, we lost to Takapuna Grammar four games to one.

This gave us a third place overall in Pool A heading into round five against the third-place getters of Pool B,

Westlake girls.

Another win to our Tauranga Girls’ College team, three matches to two, meant we kept our fifth-place seeding.

Well done, team.

Star players;

Ella Hill, winning all five matches for Tauranga Girls’ College.

Ian Yun, the team's newbie, won all her three matches.

Brooke Valois, our newest New Zealand representative. Being selected to play in the NZSS Trans Tasman team.

Ella Vrieze has represented Tauranga Girls’ College in squash for the last five years.

This year, Bri Lewitt and Izzy Brettkelly are moving from a D2 to a D1 ranking.

Our thoughts now turn to the 2024 campaign in Wellington, Lower Hutt.
