Yr 10 Numeracy and Literacy Assessments - NCEA Co-requisites 2023

TGC —

Tauranga Girls’ College completed a successful pilot programme in 2022 and can now offer the Literacy and Numeracy Standards in 2023.

The new Literacy and Numeracy standards will help ensure learners have the baseline skills recognised nationally. From 2024, these Literacy and Numeracy standards will be a co-requisite of the NCEA qualification.

All yr 10 students will participate in the first assessment event in June. This means they will sit an assessment in Reading, Writing and Numeracy and can gain up to 20 NCEA credits. Students will prepare for these assessments during their English and Maths core learning time. They will also be strengthening their Numeracy and Literacy learning areas.

What you need to know

  • There is no cost to whānau.

  • The first assessment event will take place on 13 June - 15 June.

  • The assessments will be set by NZQA using the online platform. This is a digital assessment.

  • All NZQA rules and regulations apply to this assessment. There will be no derived grades offered for this assessment if students are unable to attend.

  • Students will need to create a learning login with the NZQA platform. They will be supported with this task at school if required.

  • The assessment credits will count towards NCEA results.

  • More information about NCEA can be found here.

  • There will be a further assessment opportunity in Term 4 for students who are not successful in obtaining the standard in the first event.
