Leo Club

Kiarni Sperling —

The Tauranga Girls’ College Leo Club members gathered on Monday 15 July for the induction of the 2022 Club Leaders.

Lions representatives Colin Gill and Terry Gunn conducted the passover of the four leaders of this year's TGC Leo Club. These students include:

President: Ansh Dhot (Year 11)

Vice President: Tatum Havenga (Year 12)

Secretary: Cheyenne Taylor (Year 10)

Treasurer: Niamh Manning (Year 11)

Many other members of the club were also present at the induction, receiving a badge of recognition for putting in their time and effort towards worthy causes. Tauranga Girls’ College teacher, Felicity Pitt, also attended in support of the club.

Leo Club is a nationwide youth organisation that motivates young people to grow their leadership skills through social community services. All Leo Clubs are sponsored by local Lions Clubs. Our school's current Leos are working on multiple projects at the moment. 2022 Leo Club President, Ansh Dhot, states, “it has been a privilege to lead the Leo Club at TGC. It is really insightful to lead community based initiatives such as CUBS, our shoebox project and warm woollies where we donate to the underprivileged and develop community based projects.”

Lions representatives also shared their insight and their admiration of this year's current TGC Leo Club:

“I was impressed with how the four office holders all wanted to share what their plan of contributing to the club was for the year. It’s a contrast with the Lions protocol where the person installing usually does all the talking. Overall I’m super impressed.”

  • Colin Gill

“I'm just really stunned with how much this group is doing. They’re really doing a splendid job.”

  • Terry Gunn

Although TGC’s past Leo Club only included a few members, this year has brought many new Leos - 23 members and counting - all volunteering their time to help the community in any way they can. This number is a great representation of how motivated our students are to help surrounding communities. Leos meet every Tuesday during intervals in D2, and welcome any new members wanting to volunteer alongside the rest of the Club.

Our school’s current Leos include:

Ansh Dhot, Tatum Havenga, Cheyenne Taylor, Niamh Manning, Rizzy Saludez, Grace Billinghurst, Ella Hill, Hunter Ririnui, Tess Pateman, Aiza Mustasam, Cheyenne Taylor, Erina Islam, Kiarni Sperling, Juretha Rossouw, Laura James, Sarah Smith, Daisy Kim, Sian Gilby, Stevie-Grace Moratti, Nicole Power, Grace Hutchinson, Nancy Yang, and Nandini Saily.
