Last Tuesday we took 32 Year 9 Computer Science students to a Women in Tech, an annual event run by the University of Waikato School of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The purpose of this event was to promote higher learning and careers in tech to female students across the BOP. We listened to a panel of guest speakers who spoke on behalf of a range of local businesses and tertiary providers sharing their experiences in the tech industry.

Students also participated in workshops run by different departments in the School of Mathematics and Computer Science -. Design, Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics & Data Analytics. We got to play with Lego, Mircobits, and Cruz the UoW ambassador robot.

It was an awesome day out for our learners and hopefully, we’ve sparked an interest in studying tech in the future.
