It features traditional music, dance and language performed by several Bay of Plenty Primary and Secondary School students. This year, Tauranga Girls’ College had 20 students from several islands, such as Togan, Samoa, Kiribati etc.

Pasifika In the Bay 2023 was a fantastic festival where many different schools and cultures were able to unite and connect with one another.

The Tauranga Girls’ College Pasifika Group performed three dances: Fijian, Tuvaluan and Samoan. The costumes were handmade by a few individuals in the Pasifika group, which included a lot of hand stitching, pattern making and a significant commitment. The support from Naema, our Pasifika parent helper, was greatly appreciated.

At the festival this year, there were many new schools, including performances from local preschools, Rotorua Boys’ High School and a Cook Island group. It is great to see that Pasifika In the Bay is growing every year.

Malo lava
