InteGIRLS Maths Competition

Maths —

A few weeks ago, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) themed puzzle hunt was hosted: inteGIRLS.

We organised a group of four Years 9’s: Giselle Li, Erina Islam, Jin Lee, Arabella McDonald. The hunt consisted of around 20 questions, ranging from easy questions to hard, there were two divisions: middle school (<Year 10) and high school (Year 10-13). The questions were awfully vague and abstract, we would say they weren't even 'questions'. They were so absurdly equivocal, per se. We struggled with many of the puzzles, and had to try multiple answers every now and then. We would work as a team by piecing together what each of us learnt, it's safe to say it was quite difficult. We initially had 48 hours but due to technical difficulties we ended up having an extra day. Nonetheless, it was still quite a mind boggling challenge. Overall, we placed 5th worldwide in our division - the end hours of the puzzle hunt was very stressful as it was extremely close; becoming heavily dependent on last minute answers. We think that this was a new experience and would try it out again next year, you definitely needed to think out of the box. Thank you to teachers for recommending this hunt!

Congratulation to our other TGC teams who also competed in the competition:

Eliza Pattison, Azaleya Reid and Melody Cho
Gayathri Dinesh, Autumn Caudle and Mel Kulloli
