Have a go at Underwater Hockey!

Sports —

Underwater hockey is a sport and has a long history of being well represented by Tauranga Girls’ College, and most recently the senior team qualified for the National Secondary school finals to be held in Wellington 2022.

The team placed second in the regional tournament, but like many sports, the national tournament was affected by COVID. We want you to help us get TGC back to being one of the top teams in NZ, and we are looking for junior and senior players to take up the challenge.

Underwater hockey is part of the Winter Tournament Week and is represented by schools from as far north as Whangārei and as far south as Blenheim. Teams consist of 10 players, 6 on the court and 4 subs with rolling substituting throughout the course of the game.

If you love water activities, underwater hockey is for you! Perhaps you’re a squad swimmer or surf lifeguard. This is a great sport for fitness and to add a bit of variety to your training. If you are recovering from an injury and can’t participate in a high impact sport, underwater hockey could help with your recovery as there is little impact and a great team environment. If you want to be involved in a team sport but just haven’t found the right one yet, come and give underwater hockey a go!!

Tauranga Underwater Hockey Club supports all school teams in the Tauranga area and invites you to their “Have a Go” evenings every Sunday from 4.45pm until the end of November at Baywave Aquatic Center. Just pay the pool entry fee as the have a go events are free!
