LIZ COSTER

Future Pathways Coordinator

Liz has been appointed to the role of Future Pathways Coordinator in the Careers Department.

This position encompasses Gateway opportunities for students to gain work experience and industry related credits. The Gateway programme is designed to strengthen the pathway for senior students to progress from school to the workplace or tertiary study. It provides students with structured workplace learning, across a range of industries and businesses, while they continue to study at school.  Red Shirts at The Warehouse is currently underway and there are 24 students registered to date. Two students will begin study with BCITO next week and work placements have been secured with NZ Windows.

Taster courses also come under this role and we have 10 students starting this week, on a 10 week Levels 1 and 2 Mechanical Engineering Taster Course at Toi Ohomai. This offering is part of the Futures Academy programme.

There are also a range of exciting opportunities across the range of Vocational Pathways coming up later in the term. Information on these and how to apply will be shared via Career Central notices and email. https://app.careercentral.school.nz/ Career Central is the college’s online career platform.

The team are making connections with local industry and employers and look forward to growing this area for student transition. An example from this week was the GIB recruitment event, where GIB are looking for employees for the new factory being built at Tauriko. They envisage school leaver jobs across 18 different work areas. Applicants must be 18 years old and would be fully supported through the application process with some free pre industry training, e.g. forklift license.
