Squash Update

Sport —

This year has been another great year for Tauranga Girls' College Squash in growing our numbers and honing our skills. We have 30 girls, from graded to ungraded players, regularly training Wednesday mornings. Our aim is to get girls participating in the sport, being active and having fun, whilst also being introduced to tournament play.

To date there have been four Bay of Plenty Secondary Schools’ competitions for our girls to play in, with fantastic results, Tauranga Girls' College placing in all the competitions.

Division 1 and 2 are players C grade and above. Division 3 J to E grade. UG are ungraded players.

To add some context to the grading, it takes many years of dedicated training and competition play to make C grade. Tauranga Girls' College are in the position of having some fantastic and developing players in all grades.

BAY OF PLENTY SECONDARY SCHOOLS RESULTS

Division 1 and 2 Individuals (C grade and above)
Five competing schools: KatiKati College, Mount Maunganui College, Otumoetai College, Rotorua Girls College, Tauranga Girls' College (16 player swiss draw).

The games went according to seeding with a few great battles in the second round between Emma Merson (Mount Maunganui College) and Ella Hill (TGC). Ella was up two games and looking strong in the third but ended up being piped at the post, so overall individual results.

DIVISION 3 TEAMS
Four competing schools: KatiKati College, Papamoa College, Te Puke High School, Tauranga Girls' College (two teams).

The competition was again tight with both TGC 1 and TGC 2 beating Te Puke, but TGC 2 losing to KatiKati but beating TGC 1 leaving the overall match wins at three a piece. Winners had to be decided on game countback which again had the teams evenly pitched at eight games all. So the next level of countback had to come into play to decide the overall winners. Finally making TGC 2 overall 1st place winners and TGC 1 as 2nd place winners.

TGC 2 team players were Brianna Lewitt, Lucie Whitmore and Ella Ryan.

TGC 1 team players were Ella Vrieze, Salma Hassan, and Liv Marshall.
