North Island Clubs Underwater Hockey
Underwater Hockey students from Tauranga Girls’ College competed in the North Island Interclubs Tournament against Underwater Hockey clubs from Taupō, Rotorua and other areas.
Alivia Jenkins and Sammie Drury-Martin competed in the B-Grade Tauranga club team, Sian Gilby and Lily Nijssen competed in the C-Grade team, and Lily Smith, Natalia Kilminster and Tahlia Roscoe competed in the Novice grade. All students gave each game their all against the various club teams. For those competing in the Novice grade, this was their very first tournament, and they all came away as much better players overall.
It was a fantastic opportunity for all of us Tauranga Girls’ Underwater Hockey players to get into a tournament before our regional games start on the 17 of June. We were even lucky enough to come away with a medal each, with the B-Grade and Novice players winning first in their division and the C-Grade players placing 2nd in their grade. We can’t wait to return next year as stronger players!
Thank you to Underwater Hockey New Zealand, who organised and ran this tournament for us!
