Attendance Matters
Why attendance matters
Being at school everyday matters. The more knowledge ākonga get at school, the more choices they will have when they leave. There are just under 4 weeks of school left this year.
Senior students are on exam leave and it is important they attend their scheduled exams, the next opportunity is November 2025.
Juniors are completing assessments to inform placement in the course for 2025. It is also a time of year when learning is consolidated for the coming year.
We encourage students to maintain good habits of attendance.
Here is a link to the Ministry of Education website which highlights how easy it can be to become a regular nonattender, this can start as simply as being late to school, just missing one class, then another, one day, then two.
Five Day Threshold Notification alerts whānau when their daughter or young person has reached five days absent for a term which means attendance has slipped below 90% for that term, this alert is for absences without explanation or unjustifiable reason such as family holiday. This alert will continue until the completion of the year.
If your young person cannot attend, please inform the school via email at absences@tgc.school.nz or phone (07 5788114). We do encourage you to support us in establishing good routines in relation to attendance. Regular attendance strengthens learning.
