Making their way onto the Tauranga Boys' Campus, our incredible team of TGC debaters joined the other 15 schools to compete in the 2024 Bay Of Plenty Regional Debating Competition last weekend.

Entering six teams in total, our wāhine had one of the highest participation rates at the competition; truly demonstrating mahi tahi. A few of our members had never debated prior to this event, however, with a little coaching and courage, they stepped up to give it a go - which they were thoroughly applauded for on the day.

All the teams had a wonderful run throughout each of the three debates. The motions argued this year consisted of topics surrounding sporting leagues, social movements as well as true crime entertainment. Most notably, both of our senior teams had an all-win streak - smashing the heavy competition out of the park. Special mentions go to Gayathri Dinesh for being selected as a reserve for the BOP regional team, along with Kiarni Sperling for receiving a highly commended award.

All in all, it was a wonderful day that provided not only a large amount of experience and development for students, but a wide range of new friends from all across the Bay of Plenty for our intelligent debaters involved.
