TGC & TBC Arts Showcase

Ella Mitchell —

Not even the toughest Covid interruptions could stop the artistic talents of Tauranga Girls’ College and Tauranga Boys’ College students making it to the stage during the combined TGC & TBC Arts Showcase.

After many Performing rts opportunities were cancelled due to COVID, Arts students from Tauranga Girls’ College and Tauranga Boys’ College were eager to find a way to showcase their hard work to the community. Under the leadership of Arts Captains Ella Paterson and Hamish Graham, the idea for the combined Arts Showcase was born, giving Arts students of all disciplines an opportunity to share their talents over two nights.

With the support of technical volunteers, school staff and students, the Graham Young Youth Theatre at Tauranga Boys’ College became an artistic hub. The foyer was decorated with visual artworks created by students from both schools, creating a stunning gallery entrance to the show. Inside, bands, dancers, singers and actors waited in the wings for their chance to shine on stage.

Performances included TGC and TBC student bands, singers, dance troupes, drama performances, Bollywood dance, the Luminosa Armonia Chorale, the Little Black Dresses and a violin solo by Year 13 student Sarah Lee. It was a privilege to witness the talent and hard work all of these ākonga put into their acts.

TGC Deputy Head Prefect of Arts Ella Paterson says, “I absolutely loved seeing everybody get on stage and strut their stuff. Such an awesome team of people to work with; long live the Arts Army!”

Overall, the showcase was a great success with lots of fun had by all. Ka pai tō mahi to all of our performers, support staff and volunteers for putting on a wonderful event.
