Futures Academy programme

Careers —

Year 12 and 13 students taking Agriculture or Farming as part of the Futures Academy programme have been making the most of the crisp winter days recently!

First up, Futures Academy provider Toi Ohomai arranged a day trip to the annually held Fieldays in Hamilton.

The following week saw our students off to the HUB Farm Skills Day, run by Farm 4 Life. This was a day completely dedicated to showcasing a new perspective of what the Dairy Industry has to offer. There were talks from Tangaroa Walker, Quinn Morgan and Georgia Edwards, Fonterra dairy truck tours, gumboot throws… Kyaria Warbrick even won a bucket hat for her efforts at changing a tyre - ka pai!

But that’s not all, our L2 Agriculture students then had a chance to get up close with some kids...goat kids that is, at Peter McDonalds' Farm in Whakatāne. Who said that winter is for hibernating??
