NZ Secondary Schools Squash 2024

A team of 6 players represented Tauranga Girls’ College at the NZSS Squash Championships in Wellington from Thursday 1 August to Sunday 4 August.

The team included:

Ella Hill recently returned from representing New Zealand at the World Juniors in Houston Texas.

Brooke Valois recently won both the U15 South Island and North Island titles.

Bri Lewis representing TGC for the 5th year in a row.

Maebh Manning recently moved into D grade and is a still  rising star.

Izzy Brett Kelly represents TGC squash for the 5th year in a row.

Ian Yun representing TGC squash for the second year in a row.

There were 48 teams representing Secondary schools from all over NZ.

In Round 1 TGC competed against Lytton High School winning the tie 5/0.

This win put TGC into the championship round and Pool play.

In Round 2 TGC competed against Palmerston North Girls High winning the tie 5/0

In Round 3 TGC competed against Whangarei Girls High School who beat us last year in the very tight Bronze medal match placing us 4th overall in 2023.  This year we WON the tie 3/2.

In Round 4 TGC competed against Otumoetai College who have been reigning NZSS squash champions for the past 4 years.  TGC again won the tie 4/1, placing us in the FINAL for the first time in 27 years!

In the final Round 5 and as yet unbeaten TGC competed against Takapuna Grammar, narrowly losing the tie 3/2.

The team was stoked to gain a podium finish, a National Secondary Schools title, and  SILVER medals. The students played fantastically, they were great ambassadors for Tauranga Girls’ College, and as usual, Zoe Blissett and Linda Boubee-Hill were proud to take the team away.
