TGC students wow at Pin’d 2021

Technology —

Pin’d is an annual creative showcase where students can show their own garment and textile art designs to the community and industry professionals.

Local secondary Technology teachers volunteer together to organise, plan, and gather sponsorship so students have an opportunity to showcase their latest fashion designs on a catwalk show at Tauranga’s Baycourt theatre. It gives students a real life situation for their NCEA work. This opportunity was promoted to Textile and Fashion Design students at TGC from Year 10 through Year 13. Entrants had a number of exciting sections to consider, and with more than 25 entries TGC did really well and came away with lots of huge awards!

Carlie Harris took second place and Isabella Bloor took third place in the Hot & Spicy section.

Retha Rossouw and Amy Haig teamed up and entered the Bold Geometrics section and received third place for their design and came runner up in the Gown of the Year category.

The Street Style section had a large number of entries and our Luiza Farias gained a Highly Commended.

Lily Nijssen won the Feathers, Frills & Lace section and Shasha Baker won the Twisted White Shirt section.

The Precious Metals section saw Priya Kumar come away with second place.

Every year the judges acknowledge professional workmanship. Retha and Amy’s work won the Junior Workmanship Award and they received a Bernina sewing machine worth $1,500. Sarah Smith took out the Year 11 Workmanship Award and won a Bernina Overlocker worth $1,800.

The Supreme Design award goes to the overall design with serious amounts of innovation and wow factor. And the award goes to …………. TGC’s Lily Nijssen. Lily won tickets to Wellington's WOW - World of Wearable Art competition later on this year. Well done Lily!
