Future Pathways

TGC —

Maori and Pacific Aviation JNP Career Expo

We took ten rangitahi to Tauranga airport's Maori and Pacific Aviation Career Expo. They participated in interactive sessions with industry professionals, from pilots and air traffic controllers to engineers and ground crew. This enabled them to explore aviation career pathways and learn about training opportunities in the Bay.

Tasters

We have had a great response to the talks in Life Skills classes about year 11 Taster courses running in term 2 through Toi Ohomai. We have had many sign up with spaces for a few more in various courses such as automotive, engineering, salon environment, farming, gaming and hospitality. Collect an enrolment form from the careers office ASAP if interested.

Otago University School of Surveying

On Monday, Richard Hemi from Otago University School of Surveying visited some of our senior rangitahi to share the guaranteed employment opportunities from qualifying surveying.

Gateway update

It has been a busy time signing students up for our Gateway program, with 25 students securing a place so far. Students are gaining industry-based credits and valuable work experience placements in various future pathways. We have rangitahi exploring film production, retail, pharmacy, Maori tourism, cultural camps, engineering, hairdressing and piloting. Limited spots remain, and more opportunities will become available in Term 2.

Te Whe Auckland University Health Science experience

Three Year 10 rangitahi had the opportunity to participate in the program with St. John and Tauranga Hospital, run by Auckland University Health Science. They spent the day at St John's, visited Tauranga Hospital and gained valuable exposure to the numerous pathways within the Health Science area.

Future events

Several events and opportunities are coming up next term, which will be widely advertised via school notices and career central. There are limited spaces for each of these, so be in quick.
