A New Chapter for Tauranga Girls’ College

TGC —

We're excited to share the launch of Tauranga Girls’ College’s new brand identity and story. This change is the result of a comprehensive 15-month review process, involving focus groups of students, staff, the School Board, and guidance from Ngāti Ranginui.

Why a New Brand?

Our current logo, the Discobolus, while historically significant, often raised questions about its relevance to our school and community. The feedback we gathered highlighted a desire for a brand that better reflects our school's values, aspirations, and the unique experiences of our students.

Our New Brand Identity

The new logo embodies four key aspects: Whētu (our star), Puwhenua (our land), Poutama (our stairway to learning), and Takarangi (our spiral of learning).

Our new brand identity, “A Place of Discovery,” captures the essence of TGC. It reflects our commitment to providing a diverse range of opportunities for our students to explore their passions, develop their talents, and shape their futures.

Uniform Transition

The uniform is not changing only the Logo. To ensure a smooth transition, we’ve implemented a phased approach:

  • Current Logo Uniform: The current logo will remain in use until the end of 2026.

  • New Logo Uniform: New logo uniform items will be available for purchase from the end of December 2024.

  • Uniform Transition:

    • All new students in 2025 are expected to wear the new uniform if purchasing new items.

    • Existing students can continue wearing the old uniform until the end of 2026. (We will update you if there are any changes to this timeline).

We understand that change can be challenging. However, we believe this new brand identity will better position TGC for the future and provide a stronger sense of identity for our students.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we embark on this exciting new chapter.
