A reminder of our current phone policy

TGC —

PB4L messages to students are reinforcing our expectations regarding phones.

  • Off and Away = Drop zone or in bag out of sight. Bags at the front of room

  • Devices for learning Chrome books / Laptops are devices for learning. Students without a device can go to IT to loan a device or use pen and paper.

A reminder of our current phone policy

We do not recommend that students bring phones to school. Phones are not necessary to have during the day.

If a student does bring a phone to school, the following guidelines apply:

  • The school does not accept responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen phones.

  • Students must turn their phones off in class and keep them out of sight.

  • If a staff member observes a student with a phone during class time, the student must hand it to the staff member immediately when asked. The phone will be kept in the office and can be collected by the student at the end of the day.

  • If phones are used for a learning activity, this will be at the teacher's discretion and the phone's use will be supervised by a staff member.

  • Access to the school wifi via phone is restricted to interval and lunchtime only.

If you need to communicate messages with your young person during school hours, please contact the school office on 07 578 8114. Messages will be emailed to students' school accounts.

Should you need to drop anything to your young person (lunch, PE gear, art supplies), please drop it to the school office, clearly labelled. Students will be communicated with via email to collect the item from the student office.

If you have an urgent message / require immediate collection of your young person for an emergency only (e.g health and safety, significant wellbeing) our Office Staff, Deans or Deputy Principal’s will assist you.

A reminder that phones are not to be used during learning time, the time to message or call is during interval (11.00 - 11.30am) or lunchtime (1.30 - 2.15pm). We appreciate your support with your young person’s learning time.

Inappropriate phone use

If a student is observed using a phone inappropriately, it will be confiscated and a parent must pick up the phone from the office. If possible, students should lock their phone before handing it to staff.

Inappropriate use of a phone may include:

  • any sort of bullying, e.g. disrespectful messages about staff or other students

  • taking photos or videos of other people without their permission

  • forwarding inappropriate messages or content.
