From Friday 31 July to Sunday 2 August, the Evolution Winter Champs swimming competition was held at Baywave, Mt Maunganui where 370 swimmers from around New Zealand competed.

Tauranga Girls' College had a number of students competing at this meet. These girls included: Ella Webb, Laura Thompson, Taimana Randall, Jessica Pilbrow, Emily Pilbrow, Katie Hills, Niamh Manning, Shalei Brewer, Bianca Enright, Bree McTavish- Huriwai, Keira Allott and Jade Schumacher. The results were as follows:

Laura Thompson - made three finals
Taimana Randall - made one final
Keira Allott - made eight finals, she gained four 1st places, and one 2nd
Jessica Pilbrow - made three finals and placed 3rd in 50m Breaststroke
Katie Hills - made four finals and placed 1st in 50m Breaststroke and 2nd in 200m Breaststroke
Niamh Manning - made two finals
Shalei Brewer - made two finals

A special mention to Keira Allot. She gained 1st place in the 400m freestyle and set a new Bay of Plenty age group record for the event. Keira also came 1st in the 800m freestyle, breaking the age group and also open age group Bay of Plenty records.

These girls have been working very hard and it is awesome to see it paying off. Congratulations to all who competed.
