Duke of Edinburgh Silver

TGC —

The Duke of Edinburgh Silver group successfully completed their practice adventurous journey. Their destination was the Tarawera Hot Water Beach campsite, which required an overnight hike. The group embarked on a 15km trek along the picturesque Tarawera trail, eagerly anticipating the stunning views of the lake and immersing themselves in the beauty of nature.

Despite concerns about the blisters on their feet, the group remained determined to achieve their goal. They took brief breaks for lunch, attended to their sore feet by strapping them, and quenched their thirst with water breaks. With unwavering perseverance, they pressed on until they finally reached the campsite.

Upon arrival, the group was captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the lake. Its tranquil waters resembled a sheet of glass, leaving everyone in awe. The evening was filled with laughter and camaraderie as they prepared a delightful dinner of packet pasta, savouring the experience with their friends until exhaustion led them to peaceful slumber.

The following morning, the group awoke to the melodic symphony of birdsong and the gentle rustling of tents. They gathered their belongings, ready to embark on their return journey to Tauranga. Reflecting on their adventure, one personal lesson stood out: the importance of packing ample food for the next day. It became apparent that relying solely on nuts was not the right choice.

Overall, the Duke of Edinburgh Silver group's practice journey was a rewarding and memorable experience, filled with stunning landscapes, perseverance, and the bonds forged through shared laughter and challenges.
