Cadenza

Hunter Ririnui —

On 21 and 22 August, the TGC Luminosa Armonia Chorale competed at the 2022 Upper North Island Cadenza which took place at the Energy Events Centre in Rotorua. Three Cadenzas are held throughout NZ and twelve choirs are chosen to compete at each. The choirs are chosen based on their performance at their regional Big Sing, so the calibre of choirs at this competition is very impressive.

The competition consisted of formal competitive sessions and mass workshops where the adjudicator, Elise Bradley, rehearsed two songs with all the singers to perform at the gala concert. These workshops were a great opportunity to learn from Elise Bradley who is an internationally respected conductor, and take on board different techniques.

The awards in order of excellence were: Tui, Korimako, then Wharauroa. The Chorale performed their repertoire beautifully and ended up gaining a Korimako award. Congratulations to these talented vocalists!

The Chorale’s next endeavour will be to the Wellington Band and Orchestra Festival (WeBO) at the end of September. Good luck to you all!
