Izabella Polomka- Year 10 Art

For our painting project, we looked at a couple of different artist models to learn about different painting techniques. I was inspired by the artist Jerome Rochette, I liked the way he composed his subject matter with the main focal point being created with scale.

My ideas came from things that I see in everyday life. I thought of butterflies in my garden, I have always liked bees and butterflies so I decided to incorporate both in my painting. This artwork took a while, it has lots of layers and the first being black gesso then spray paint, which was over some patterned material, it has shellac on it so that it has more of an orange varnished look.

I also spray painted some stencils to set up an interesting background for my butterfly which I hand-painted using a brush and dotting tool to give it a more 3D look. I experimented with colour combinations and the scale of the different insects to create my final painting.
