Sports Achievements
Over the past few months individual sports have been different due to the implications of COVID-19, but students at Tauranga Girls’ College have still managed to excel in their given sports both inside and outside of school.
Olive Pearce: Year 13, Lily Pearce: Year 11 and Kyra Addison: Year 10, competed in the Rangitoto Classic, Surf Life Saving event. Olive and Lily competed individually in a Surf Ski while Kyra competed in a Mixed Double Ski. The race included a 5km paddle from Takapuna Beach to Rangitoto Island, followed by a 7km run up and down Rangitoto Island, finishing with another 5km paddle back to Takapuna Beach. Olive won the Open Female Surf Ski division and both Lily and Kyra placed extremely well in their respective divisions considering they were some of the youngest competitors there.
In the 115 km Cape Reinga to Kaitaia Road Race, Sarah-Jane Stone received 1st in the Female U20 category. She was also this month's winner of the Tauranga Girls’ College Sports Girl of The Month.
In the Kaimai Classic Golf Tournament, Tania Ellis, a Year 9 student was the U19 Net Champion.
In the New Zealand Indoor Rowing Competition, which took place during lockdown, Kelly Brown: Year 13, was the U18 champion.
In the Squash North Island Junior Age Group Championships Ella Hill received 4th in the U15 age group.
