Last weekend, Tauranga audiences were treated to a live orchestral performance of Elodie Broad's award-winning composition Taking to the Skies.

An outstanding percussionist and oboist, Elodie also excels as a composer, and when the opportunity presented itself to compose a piece for orchestra, she was keen to "have a go".

After working on the composition at school as part of her Music studies, Elodie submitted the work for adjudication as part of the ‘Rising Stars’ music competition. Her piece, which drew inspiration from her love of aviation, was very well received by the adjudication panel, and she was awarded first place in the competition.
