Future Pathways

TGC —

It has been a hectic start to 2023 with a large number of rangitahi involved in all areas of our future pathway planning and course opportunities.

We have 46 students enrolled in the Futures Academy programmes. Studying Level 2 and Level 3 courses in various pathways such as; construction, hair and beauty, automotive, engineering, agriculture, skincare and makeup, animation development, coding, early childhood, digital business, rescue diving and IT.

“Going to course is the highlight of my week. It’s so hands-on and fun.”

Our Level 2 Gateway program has 35 places for students. Students can select an individualised program based on their personal future pathway interests alongside valuable industry work experience placement. We have limited spaces to offer, so keep an eye out on the student notices to find out when applications open.

MITO Automotive bus tour

Five students embarked on a bus tour by MITO to three different premises in the automotive industry on 7 March. They visited a light vehicle car mechanic and dealership, a collision repair workshop, and a heavy diesel truck building facility. It was great for the students to see behind the scenes first-hand and discover how they could transition to an exciting and rewarding career in the industry.

International Women's day experience with the NZ Defence Force

Agricultural Futures Academy student Te Kihiora Kuka (Yr 12) was selected to attend the two-day International Women's day breakfast with Ruby Tui at the Devonport Naval base, facilitated by the NZ Defence Force. She was among only two ākonga selected throughout the BOP and nominated for her numerous rugby successes.

"It was inspiring to meet Ruby Tui, tour the navy base, and see all the young women training in the Defence Force. It has opened my eyes to a career in the Defence Force."
