Badminton: Junior BOP Championships
Three Junior Badminton teams represented Tauranga Girls’ College in the Bay of Plenty Championships. They all played solidly for approximately six hours!
Our third team had been entered as a “wild card”. The improvements they made from the qualifying tournament were significant. They had not won a game in that tournament, so it was through sheer determination and courage that they not only won games but came fourth overall in division three. This was a phenomenal effort.
Our second team played some very close games too. They played Western Heights at the start of the tournament and lost that match in a countback of points. Therefore it was so exciting when they ended up playing Western Heights in the final, and they won!
Our division two team also excelled. They played five other schools in a combined division one and two pool. These players played amazingly. They beat John Paul College, a division one team, early in the competition. This success continued with them winning every game until they ended up in the final and lost to Whakatane High School, another division one team.
Other schools commented on how well all of our students played. We are incredibly proud of our Junior Badminton teams.
