Future Pathways and Careers

Careers —

At this time we are beginning to offer support events and opportunities for Year 13 rangatahi as they consider their future pathways and career journeys beyond our kura.

The focus at this time is support for students considering tertiary study. There has been a workshop on applications and references for accommodation. The first step is for rangatahi to request a CCRF from their whanau teacher.

In terms of scholarships the focus is for rangatahi to research potential scholarships that they would be eligible to apply for. The website www.moneyhub.co.nz is a comprehensive collection of most scholarships that are on offer; University and Polytechnics also have them listed on their websites. They are encouraged to keep a record of scholarship names, award Criteria and closing dates.

During the common Year 13 free period from 2.20pm on Wednesday 29 August a dedicated assembly will be held to step students through the scholarship application process. In particular on the system to follow for requesting a reference from the school. It will require a specially formatted CV to be submitted to the Principal’s EA, Julie Cole.

In Term 3, all universities will be onsite to assist with course planning. Your young person is encouraged to register for these sessions, as they are a valuable support for paper selection for each degree. Toi Ohomai will offer the same assistance as well as the opportunity to be Student for a Day, which offers insight into the chosen study programme.
