Year 10 Art Sculpture
My inspiration for my sculpture came from animates where I work! Unpacking some mealworms, I became fascinated with them and started joking around how I wanted some pet worms. Butterflies are my favourite bugs - I have so many pieces of jewellery that I wear every day, which is why they appear in my piece. I find them so beautiful.
When I had to come up with a plan for an art project, it all came to me in my head and I had a vision. I never really liked planning because it never looked as good on paper, so I just didn’t have a plan. It took lots of perseverance when trying to make the structure of my worm as it didn’t support its weight. I decided I wanted to go for a creepy, ugly, and beautiful look. Which, as you can tell, I mastered!
The colour of my sculpture was something I decided on about five minutes before I started painting, but I do like those colours in general. I began with the idea of a worm, but throughout the creative process, it began to look more like an old man’s face. As for the human teeth, the idea just came to me. I wanted real ones but unfortunately getting real human teeth is harder than you would think! I used clay and a gloss finish on the teeth, as well as an artist's knife to make textures on the surface to give them a more realistic appearance. I couldn’t think of a name for this piece but would like some ideas!
